The Tennessee Volunteers have been on a tumultuous and dramatic head coach hunt since firing Butch Jones, and this week that coaching hunt dove into the Big 12.
Tennessee officials have reached out to Purdue coach Jeff Brohm to gauge his interest in becoming the school's next coach, multiple sources have told Yahoo Sports.
Purdue was in shambles when Brohm took over.
Brohm was hired at Purdue following the 2016 season, and has the Boilermakers 6-6 and headed to a bowl this season. The Vols reportedly were prepared to make Gundy one of the highest-paid coaches in the SEC. Pretty solid for a team that hadn't sniffed a bowl game since 2012.
If he were to leave the Boilermakers before December 5, Brohm would owe $5 million to the university.
"Gundy's developing interest in Tennessee was heightened by another setback in his relationship with Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder, according to sources", ESPN's Chris Low wrote Tuesday night. Tennessee has also reached out to N.C. State coach Dave Doeren, Feldman said.
The Volunteers fired Butch Jones on November 12, the day after they lost 50-17 at Missouri to fall to 0-6 in the SEC.
