Stabbing Suspect Shot And Killed By Police In The Bronx

Police Officer shoots man stabbing 2 security guards in the Bronx female guards survive

NY police confirmed Monday night that a police officer shot a suspect dead after two females were stabbed in the Bronx shortly before 8 p.m.

Police responded to reports of the stabbings, and opened fire after telling Lockhart, 67, more than 20 times to drop the knife he was holding, officials said.

Lockhart, who had been a resident of the shelter at some point, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he died.

The suspect, who'd once lived there, jumped over a counter to attack the two women, a source said. Police did not release the injuries and conditions of the two women Monday night.

Uniformed officers from the 48 Precinct responded to a radio-run of an assault-in-progress (person stabbed) at 1974 Hughes Avenue. The armed man did not comply, and instead stepped toward the officers with the knife displayed in his right hand.

Police say both officers discharged their service weapons, striking the suspect multiple times. The suspect was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he expired.

Police say Lockhart stabbed two female security guards inside of the lobby of the building with a 5-inch steak knife.

Both officers were wearing body cameras and police say they are reviewing the footage.
