Solanke delighted with England call-up

Ruben Loftus Cheek plays for Crystal Palace versus Manchester City in the Premier League

Solanke has been called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad for tonight's clash with Brazil.

Southgate was rewarded with a man-of-the-match display when he handed Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek a debut in Friday's friendly draw with Germany and he plans to keep promoting youngsters.

Solanke has, however, made just one start at senior level.

"It was wonderful for him to be named man of the match on his debut and that is something that all the young boys now want to follow".

"A lot of the boys know Gareth from the Under-21s and he obviously knows a lot of us", Solanke said.

The England Under-21 worldwide left the club in the search of regular first-team football, and despite only featuring scarcely for Liverpool since his arrival at Anfield, he has found himself presented with more frequent opportunities. To play against them would be wonderful, really.

'They've got good pedigree, and we won't hesitate to put them on the pitch'. I think there is a lot of great talents in English football. "So I think that it's a really good time to be a young England player. It's the route we want to go", he added.

[The call-up] came as a surprise but anything can happen as a footballer.

"Football is all about confidence and belief, and if you believe in yourself and you get an opportunity than all you can do is take it".

"Angus has worked with the Under-21s, he's playing in the league [on loan at Norwich]; the other two are captain of the Under-20 World Cup winners [Cook] and golden boot victor at the Under-20 World Cup [Solanke]".

"Football can change quickly so if you get an opportunity, you have to take it". There's still a long season ahead and everybody has to do everything they can at their clubs.

'We have to see how the game progresses but I won't have any hesitation in putting them on the pitch.
