Schiff: Trump's Actions Toward Putin 'Remarkable and Remarkably Bad'

"It's either naiveté, ignorance or fear in terms of what Mr. Trump is doing vis-a-vis the Russians", Brennan said. He will show up at a banquet Saturday evening and, on Sunday, meet up with the nation's president and P.M. before maneuvering to his last stop: the Philippines.

Putin also said that there is an urgent need for formal meetings with Trump.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Sunday on CNN " s "State of the Union" that Trump's downplaying of the threat posed by Russia's meddling in last year's election was unsafe to U.S. national security and allows countries like Russian Federation and China to "play" the President. "Every time he sees me, he says, 'I didn't do that, ' and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it". As to whether I believe it or not I am with our agencies... I believe in our intel agencies, our intelligence agencies.

President Trump has refused to acknowledge a reported assessment by the CIA and other intelligence agencies that Russian Federation was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee in the run-up to 2016 presidential election.

In the meantime, a special investigation is taking place of possible collusion among Moscow and Trumps campaign aides, up to now has led to a couple of indictments with monetary and other criminal offenses not related to the marketing campaign, and a guilty plea.

Multiple congressional committees are also investigating.

'But he says, 'I didn't do that.' I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country'.

The president also lashed out at three former high-ranking members of the U.S. intelligence community: former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, former CIA director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. "I have worked with them very strongly..."

Former CIA director John Brennan and former National Intelligence director James Clapper said on Sunday that President Trump is likely being manipulated by Russian president Vladimir Putin and other foreign governments.

Trump's friendly posture towards Russian Federation has alarmed national-security experts, and it prompted former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to warn on Sunday that the belief that Russia's interests run parallel to the US' was a national security risk.

US President Donald Trump has said that heavy sanctions imposed on Russian Federation should not become a barrier for future friendly cooperation between the two nations, adding that cordial worldwide relations would be likely to help resolve the North Korean threat and many other global issues.

When asked by a reporter if he could say with absolute certainty that the election results were not skewed as a result of Russian interference, Pompeo said, "The intelligence community's assessment is that the Russian meddling that took place did not affect the outcome of the election".

The Arizona Republican's statement came following Trump's comments to reporters Saturday morning about a meeting he had with Putin on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Trump danced around questions about whether he believed Putin but stressed Putin's denials.

Trump also took a swipe at Obama-era intelligence officials Brennan, Clapper and former FBI Director James Comey, calling them "political hacks" and questioning the findings of a US intelligence report that concluded that Russians sought to tilt the election in Trump's favor. He also called the Russian Federation investigation an "artificial obstacle" and added "people will die because of it, and it's a pure hit job". It's now time to get back to healing a world that is shattered and broken...

That sentiment seems to also be on the Trump's side, and he highlighted the importance of Washington and Moscow handling biggest global threats.

The Obama-era Central Intelligence Agency chief added that he took the criticism from Trump with pride.
