It's official Rasgulla belongs to West Bengal not Odisha

The two states, Bengal and Odisha, had entered the fray to stake their claim on the dessert for far too long.

The Chennai-based GI registration office awarded the GI tag to Bengal thus putting to rest the almost two-year debate between neighbouring states West Bengal and Odisha regarding the place of origin of this sweet sphere.

The GI authorities in Chennai ruled that West Bengal is the origin of the sweet.

One of the most popular Bengali candies, Rosogolla, has been the bone of contention between West Bengal and Odisha, as the two states have been involved in a legal battle over its origins.

According to a report by News18, the Assistant Registrar of Trade Marks and GI, Chinnaraja G Naidu was quoted saying, "Yes, today Bengal got the GI patent for Rosogolla".

The West Bengal claim was on the basis of historical facts that Bengal is the father of Rosgulla.
