In the early hours of Monday morning, Tampa police responded to a shooting and found one man dead in the Seminole Heights neighborhood of the city.

Hegarty said that investigators are treating the death as related to the three recent unsolved murders in Seminole Heights.

A 911 call reporting shots fired in the area came in around 4:51 a.m., according to WFLA News Channel 8.

They believe the killer may still be in the area.

Tampa police say residents of the Seminole Heights neighborhood reported hearing shots just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The earlier murders began on October 9, when Benjamin Mitchell, 22, was shot while waiting for a bus.

"I spoke with a woman who told me the man killed in Seminole Heights regularly helps with homeless outreach, and was out early to get set up", tweeted Meredyth Censullo‏ of WFLA. All three victims, 22-year-old Benjamin Mitchell, 32-year-old Monica Hoffa and 20-year-old Anthony Naiboa were found within one mile of each other. "I don't know why he feels the need to go out and senselessly murder people in the street, shoot them down like they're dogs". Although he is not thought to be a suspect, officials believe the person of interest might have been within range of the murder. No further details were immediately released, including whether the person was shot.

"We believe he may have seen something or heard something that could assist us in this investigation", Interim Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said on October 26.
