Polestar breaks ground in China for its first production facility

The Polestar Production Centre is based in Chengdu, China, and will house production of the upcoming Polestar 1 hybrid performance auto. They also want their new facility to be one of the most efficient in the world, targeting the Gold status in the globally-recognised LEED ratings (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Polestar has announced that construction of its new factory has begun. Polestar is now targeting to build a maximum of 500 units per year. The facility will also include a special customer experience centre. Here, potential buyers can experience the full performance of Polestar's cars.

"Following the successful launch of the new Polestar brand in October, construction of the new Polestar Production Centre is the next step in turning our plans into reality".

It's been designed by Norwegian architects and arrives with the aim of being "the most environmentally responsible vehicle factory in China".

Polestar, Volvo Cars' performance brand and company, is about to set up shop in Asia right on the heels of the announcement that the company will debut its very first model last October 2017.

Polestar, the former Volvo performance arm that has heavy links to China through the brands" parent company Geely, is building the site to be the country's most "environmentally responsible' auto factory. They will completely ditch the IC engines and will be powered exclusively by electric powertrain. The number is of course expected to grow since the company has already announced plans for the Polestar 2 model coming sometime in 2019 as a sedan that will most likely fight directly against the Tesla Model 3.

The factory will first produce the Polestar 1, revealed earlier this year, with other bespoke stand-alone models to follow later down the track.
