Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswamy on Thursday confirmed that the Election Commission had awarded the AIADMK rettai ellai (two-leaves) symbol to the unified faction of the party led by him and his deputy O Panneerselvam.
"EC has given judgement in our favour, we are very happy". Reports said that Sasikala camp may move the Madras High Court against the poll panel's verdict. "Majority of party workers supported us", Palaniswami was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
On allegations that they got the symbol due to their "proximity with the Bharatiya Janata Party", Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy said, "It is wrong. All this was taken into consideration", Palaniswami added.
The development is a setback to the deposed party leader VK Sasikala, who is now serving her term in a Bengaluru jail in a disproportionate assets case, besides her nephew and sidelined deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran.
