Netflix is hesitant to release anything resembling ratings for its shows, but it did share some info on public streaming habits on Tuesday - and yes, a ton of people are "Netflix and chilling" (ugh) on the go.
Data from a global Netflix survey, of 1900 Australian respondents, found a surprising number of us are watching Netflix content in a public toilet.
Interestingly 34 percent are watching Netflix content on their daily commute to work, 32 percent are watching at a cafe or restaurant and surprisingly 8 percent of Aussies are streaming in a public bathroom.
With 109 million-plus Netflix subscribers worldwide, that would mean almost 13 million people have made it a habit of binge-watching and flushing.
The survey reported 45 percent of Aussies have caught someone spying on their screen which may be seen as simple nosiness, but a further 11 percent admitted to having a show or movie being spoiled to them by checking out someone else's screen.
The next time you spot someone crying on the bus, just know that it's probably because they're watching their favorite show on the go.
Netflix says that when we can't avoid the crowds, unpredictable weather delays and long lines that go hand in hand with the upcoming summer holidays, it is revealing that "59% of Aussies are watching their Netflix in Public, out of the home and on the go".
"Netflixing In Public has become a social norm with 60% of Americans watching more movies and shows in public this year than last", said Eddy Wu, Director, Production Innovation Netflix, in a statement.
In fact, access to movies and TV shows is among the top five travel essentials (44 per cent people voted for the access), along with WiFi (48 per cent) and a comfortable seat (49 per cent), a charger (41 per cent) and food (37 per cent).
