"I also feel that these relations between India and the United States are not just for our mutual interests but go much beyond that, and we are working together for the interests of the future of Asia and for humanity as a whole in the world".

On Sunday, Modi held separate pull-aside meetings with Trump and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on the sidelines of a gala dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN.

They are also scheduled to meet with the region's industry leaders representing the Asean Business Advisory Council. "I also assure that India will try its best to fulfil the expectations that the USA and the world has from it", Mr. Modi said in his opening statement of the meeting.

"We are using technology to reach out to people..."

"He (Trump) expressed optimism about India and I am assuring that the expectation the world has, the expectation the U.S. has, India has been trying to live up to that expectation and will continue to do it", said Modi. India-U.S. ties are becoming broader and deeper and you too can feel that India-U.S. ties can work together beyond the interest of India, for the future of Asia and for the welfare of the humanity in the world.

On the margins of the summit, he also held a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

Among the member-states who were given a festive welcome by approximately 1,400 students include Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, Lao PDR Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Mr. Modi was doing a "fantastic job by bringing lots of factions in India together that is what I hear and is a good news and lot of good reports are coming out of India".

China on Monday questioned its exclusion from the quadrilateral group and expressed hope that the new concept of "Indo-Pacific" is not directed against it.
