Meryl Streep clarifies 1979 groping allegation against Dustin Hoffman

Its seems like Hoffman's past has come to haunt him again, as an interview with a leading US publication was unearthed in which the Meryl Streep, three-time Oscar victor, recounted a time when her former "Kramer vs. Kramer" co-star Dustin Hoffman touched her breast on their first meeting, according to E! "What an obnoxious pig, I thought", Meryl said in the interview.

The Time magazine article quoted the 68-year-old actress recalling her first meeting with Hoffman, 80, when she auditioned for a play he directed years earlier.

Streep's representative added, "There was an offense and it is something for which Dustin apologized".

However, Streep's representative told E!

It was not clear if Hoffman ever commented on the meeting.

Last week, Anna Graham Hunter, a former production assistant on the Hoffman-helmed Death of a Salesman, opened up about the alleged sexual harassment she received from Hoffman in 1985.

In the old interview, Streep recounted the first time she met her "Kramer vs. Kramer" co-star and said that his weird behavior made her think he was a "pig".

"At 49, I understand what Dustin Hoffman did as it fits into the larger pattern of what women experience in Hollywood and everywhere".

Hunter was 17 years old at the time of the alleged incident.

In 1991, writers Wendy Riss Gatsiounis accused Hoffman of sexual harassment. She declined the offer and the actor turned down the opportunity to adapt her play into a movie.

Now starring in The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) on Netflix, Hoffman made his first public appearance following Gatsiounis and Graham Hunter's charges on November 5, presenting a Hollywood Film Award to Adam Sandler, his onscreen son in that film and 2014's The Cobbler.

Hoffman apologised after Hunter spoke out saying "it is not reflective of who I am".
