Liverpool's Solanke hoping to revive 'friendly rivalry' with former teammate for England

Liverpool's Danny Ings looks dejected after the 1-1 draw with Norwich City during the Premier League match at Anfield

England manager Gareth Southgate "will not hesitate" to throw Dominic Solanke, Lewis Cook and Angus Gunn into action against Brazil.

His friend and former teammate Abraham made his England debut against world champions Germany in goalless draw on Friday. The other two - captain of the Under-20 World Cup winners (Cook) and Golden Boot victor in the Under-20s World Cup (Solanke).

Solanke and Abraham joined Chelsea's youth-set up as eight-year-old's and have been close friends ever since.

The stockpiling of Premier League youth players and the dysfunctional loan system stymieing their progress has created a situation that is completely arse-over-tit, leaving gifted players of 20, 21, etc being forced upwards through the worldwide ranks despite being largely devoid of full professional experience - Solanke being a good example.

"We are always constantly battling with each other and giving each other banter. It is a friendly rivalry".

The Chelsea academy graduate was recruited by the Reds in the summer following his decision to move on from Stamford Bridge in the search for regular game time.

The youngster earned himself his first call-up to the England senior team for Tuesday's friendly global against Brazil.

He scored 26 goals on loan at Bristol City in the Championship last season.

It's insane, really. It's every boy's dream and to play at Wembley against a great nation like Brazil, so it will mean a lot.
