Vizag:IndiGo Plane carrying 150 passengers was bound for Hyderabad had a narrow escape after a wild boar nearly collided with the aircraft that was taking off. IndiGo officials confirmed that the pilot saw the boar, but it was too late to abort take-off. After refuelling and maintenance services, the flight with around 150 passengers on board took off from Vizag to Hyderabad at around 10.45 pm.After the pilot made an emergency landing on the Vizag runway, the IndiGo and airport staffers, along with the security wing and technical support teams examined the wheels, the airport officials said. In the panic that followed, the pilot informed the Air Traffic Controller and took to the air nevertheless to avoid a fire since the tank was full.
The boar came bang in front of the aircraft which was all set to take off. The crew realized there was a problem when the rear wheels failed to lift while takeoff. Hence, the pilots flew the plane over the sea for 45 minutes to burn fuel and then landed at the Vizag airport. "As per the standard operating procedures, the captain immediately reported the matter to the Air Traffic Control and chose to hold over Vizag", the airline said in the statement. The pilot and engineers inspected the aicraft and confirmed that there was no damage. After the incident, Vizag airport director G Prakash Reddy wrote to the Indian Navy, Visakhapatnam collector and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), requesting the authorities to initiate measures to clear the vegetations near the runway. There were no compound walls at the airport at that time.
The flight, 6E-742, was scheduled to land at the Hyderabad airport at 11:15 pm but managed to takeoff from Vizag eventually at 1 am. Now, the wild boar menace is serious.
