You may have to download an Android APK file if the current version of your app can't be updated from the Google Play Store.
Last Pass have made a statement on their blog stating that Google have contacted them and other app developers and are working on a "long-term solution" to suit users' needs and their accessibility requirements for full app functionality.
Many developers have built Android apps that rely on the Accessibility Services API for purposes that may not necessarily be specific to helping users with disabilities.
Google's new policy will hurt a large swath of power-user apps.
"Unfortunately, like their decision to remove system overlays on Oreo, this makes all too much sense when you consider that they're doing this to get a tighter hold on the functionality that Android apps are allowed to have; preventing apps from stealing users data without their knowledge is a pretty important issue for them". These apps used Toast notifications to display a fake progress bar for an app which purports to restrict other apps from running without the user inputting a PIN. Of course, this includes older versions of Android that no longer support updates to the Play Store.
Hundreds of Android app developers may have just received some unfortunate news from Google. The page even lists some non-accessibility examples for the accessibility API, like assisting "Users who are driving, taking care of a young child or attending a very loud party might need additional or alternative interface feedback". Now, they are sized better in relation to the icon free space. The service has also been used for other purposes such as fill in text fields by some apps like Tasker and LastPass to perform some functions. Some developers are attempting to come up with workarounds, but, for the most part, nothing on Android compares with the accessibility APIs.
