Gareth Bale: Real Madrid forward ruled out for longer with calf injury

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale could miss a month of action after suffering an adductor injury during training on Thursday.

A statement on Real's official website reads: "Our player Gareth Bale, who felt some discomfort in his left leg at the end of training last Thursday, has been subjected to different tests today by the Real Madrid Sanitas Medical Services".

Bale has appeared in just five league fixtures this season and played in only half of Los Blancos' La Liga matches in 2016-17 as a result of calf and ankle issues.

Bale hasn't played for Madrid since September when he was ruled unfit to play because of "swelling (.) to the soleus muscle of his left leg".

"His recovery will continue to be assessed".

Zidane's side face city rivals Atletico Madrid next on 18 November and now sit third in La Liga, eight points behind leaders Barcelona.

The latest injury is his 19th since joining Real for a club record fee of €100m in 2013. Ireland subsequently won the game in Cardiff 1-0 via a James McClean goal, which secured Martin O'Neill's side a World Cup play-off place. Bale is also set to miss the Champions League tie away to Apoel on November 21.
