The French Ski Federation said in a statement that David Poisson, a former medallist at the world championships, was training at Nakiska for upcoming World Cup races in North America but did not elaborate on the circumstances.
The French federation said it would release more details on the accident in due course.

The Twitter account of the Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup, which will host the best skiers in the world next weekend, also expressed its condolences. He represented France twice in the Winter Olympics, coming in seventh place in 2010 and 16th place in 2014. In 2013, he won his only World Cup medal, a bronze in Austria.
"Devastated by this news, Michel Vion, president, Fabien Saguez, national technical director, and all of the sports and administrative staff of the federation join the pain of his loved ones in these particularly hard times".
He was training at the ski resort in the Rockies west of Calgary in preparation for upcoming World Cup races in North America.
David Poisson, a former World Cup bronze medal victor in 2013, and competitor in both the Vancouver and Sochi Winter Games, was killed while training on the Kananaskis slope Monday morning.
