According to The Mirror, Torres will be looking to leave Atletico on a loan in search of more first team opportunities, especially with Diego Costa's imminent arrival to the club.

With this in mind the club have made acquiring a striker their top priority in the January transfer window, and someone like Fernando Torres, who has an abundance of Premier League experience, would be the flawless addition. The Spanish global has 18 months left on his Atletico contract and would like to retire at the end of that deal.

Torres, who played for Liverpool between 2007 and 2011, has started just twice in all competitions for Atletico Madrid this season.

Not only would the pair improve Newcastle on the pitch, but they would surely make more players excited to move to St. James' Park.

Newcastle fans will be hopeful that Benitez can lure his compatriot to St James' Park after the striker spent three years working under the Magpies boss at Liverpool and nearly one season at Chelsea.

However, it doesn't appear that Torres will see out the remainder of his career at the Wanda Metropolitano, with the Spain worldwide informing his representatives to secure him a move away from the Spanish capital in January, having only started one La Liga game, this term.
