Desperate measures, as Everton reopen talks with Allardyce

Allardyce took Everton training for the first time on Friday at the club's Finch Farm base

Sky Sports News are reporting that Everton are in talks with Sam Allardyce with a view to making him the new manager of the Blues.

Caretaker David Unsworth called for the club to act after Sunday's 4-1 drubbing at Southampton left them two points above the relegation zone.

It's undertstood Allardyce was then approached, but he told Everton he was no longer interested in the job after being offered only contract until the end of the season.

The Merseyside club have lost five of their seven matches since taking the decision to sack Ronald Koeman.

Just before now manager Claude Puel got the job, Allardyce was amongst a plethora of names heavily linked with the Leicester post.

Allardyce has a great record of avoiding relegation, helping Sunderland and Crystal Palace to Premier League Safety in each of the last two games.

Dutch tactician Koeman had led his side to just 3 wins from 14 across all competitions to start out the campaign, despite the Toffees having invested nearly £150 million on the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jordan Pickford, Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane and more during the summer.

Everton spent more than £140m in the summer but failed to replace top scorer Romelu Lukaku after his move to Manchester United.

The need for major shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright to appoint a manager has become more desperate after a 5-1 humiliation at home to Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday followed by the 4-1 thrashing at Southampton on Sunday.

The Merseyside outfit are now in all sorts of trouble down in 16th place, just two points above the relegation zone after 13 matches, during which they have leaked in a league-high 28 goals.
