Bomb blast kills many in Adamawa

Boko Haram insurgents have beheaded six farmers at Dimge plantation in the Mafa Local Government Area of Borno

The blast occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning while worshippers were holding prayer. We don't have the figure now because they have been taken to several hospitals for treatment.

Mohammed Asheik, from the Civilian Joint Task Force assisting the military with security in the northeast, said: "Our people went to the farm to work".

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but terrorist group Boko Haram has been behind many such attacks in the past.

Abubakar added that numerous injured were receiving treatment nearby.

When contacted, the Adamawa Police Command Public Relation Office, SP Othman Abubakar said he had yet to receive briefing on the incidence.

Another emergency services official described the blast as "devastating".

According to eyewitnesses, suspected suicide bomber carried out the attack around 5 a.m., during the Muslim early morning prayers. He said only that there were "high casualties".

Since 2009, tens of thousands of people in Nigeria have died at the hands of Boko Haram, while an estimated 2.5 millions have also been forced to flee their homes.

Adamawa has been the scene of repeated attacks by insurgents in recent years.

There have been repeated suicide bombings in the area, which lies not far from the Sambisa Forest area of Borno, where the militants had a base.
