Ariya Jutanugarn wins CME Group Tour Championship as Lexi Thompson slips up

LPGA Tour Park Sung-hyun of South Korea watches her second shot at the second hole during the final round of the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples Florida on Nov. 19 2017

Perhaps most surprising at the end of the day was that Park was no longer in the lead. Park also pulled into a tie with Ryu atop the Player of the Year points standings by tying for sixth at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida, on Sunday (local time). She said she was honored to be in the same company as Lopez.

Wie, who is seeking her first win since 2014, has not had the easiest of weeks.

Jutanugarn hit her approach about 18 feet above the hole and made it for winning birdie. From last week I felt pretty good. "I really wasn't thinking about the outcome any more at all".

After a rollercoaster year, Ariya, who will turn 22 this Thursday, is feeling good with her game again.

Now she can only hope her one bad day is behind her.

"I wasn't even thinking about it".

South Korean golfers combined for a record-tying 15 wins in the 2017 LPGA Tour season, sweeping up almost half of the tournaments to reaffirm their dominance in women's golf. Course: Tiburon Golf Club. "Just going to go out there, free swing, commit to my targets, and try to do my best".

"Keeping your focus all four days is hard".

Ryu climbed to No. 1 in the world rankings for the first time on June 26 and stayed there until November 6, when Park became the first rookie to reach No. 1. CME Race to the Globe leader: Lexi Thompson. She was in a group of seven tied for 12th on eight-under 208.

Jutanugarn started the day among the quartet holding the lead, but got off to an ignominious start when she topped her opening drive on the par-5 first hole en route to a bogey 6.

Jutanugarn closed birdie-birdie to claim the title in the LPGA season finale, her seventh career title.

Thompson has gone through her share of them this year. She chipped into a sandy waste area, came up short into a bunker and failed to get up-and-down.

The 20-year-old shot a three-under 69 in her final hit for the year on Monday morning (NZT), to finish as one of five players on nine-under at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, six shots back from victor Ariya Jutanugarn, of Thailand.

At stake on Sunday is just about everything.

Thompson suddenly looks good for the Vare, while Park remained in good shape to capture the money title.

Her ability to bounce back from that disappointment-she who two tournaments with eight top-five finishes in 20 starts this season-was one of the more impressive storylines in golf this year. She could win the $1 million bonus by winning the tournament and have Thompson finish out of the top nine.

The American star had a chance to win both the tournament and the top player honors. "It's a really packed leaderboard".

"It's a great way to finish off the season", Pettersen said. "Should be fun tomorrow".
