Allegretti said the US maritime industry-and its unionized workers-are working with the administration's emergency and maritime agencies to quickly deliver food, fuel, first aid, and building supplies to Puerto Rico.

Thursday, Duke stirred controversy when referring to the government's response in Puerto Rico as a "good news story".

Trump had responded by deriding the "poor leadership ability" of the mayor and others in Puerto Rico "who are not able to get their workers to help". After the tour, she was set to hold a meeting with the governor of Puerto Rico and officials.

"There is a double standard of how Puerto Ricans are being treated", she said in response to his tweet, calling the Trump administration's response to the hurricane "deplorable". "I am begging, begging anyone that can hear us, to save us from dying".

Schumer also criticized Trump for waiting almost two weeks to visit Puerto Rico, noting the president had traveled to Texas twice in that time when Harvey struck.

The vessel's sailing plan was a Friday departure from Norfolk, Virginia, with up to five days before it would reach Puerto Rico.

Freshmen players Leiri Melendez, of Ponce, PR, and Salma Gonzalez, of Isabella, PR, also helped to coordinate the efforts.

Trump, however, took to Twitter this morning to tout his administration's efforts in Puerto Rico and relayed praise he said he had received from the island's governor.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin (mih-NOO'-shin) says Cruz's comments were "unfair" and that "when the president gets attacked, he attacks back".

"The lack of planning and preparation is literally costing lives", said Mark-Viverito, who was born in San Juan.

Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz implored Trump from afar to "make sure somebody is in charge that is up to the task of saving lives", while the president asserted that USA officials and emergency personnel are working all-out against daunting odds, with "incredible" results. "I mean, that place was just destroyed", Trump told reporters on September 27.

The remarks, in tweets and from the manicured green, demonstrated Trump's defiance in the face of charges that he has been distracted and his administration slow to respond to the USA territory's struggle to restore power and basic services in the two weeks after the storm.

Estimates of when Puerto Rico will regain power range from three to six months.

Trump said he will travel to Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

Outside the capital, San Juan, people said that was far from the truth.

'This is not a good news story, ' San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz tells CNN following oddly upbeat comments made the previous day by a top Trump administration official.

"Every minute we spend in the political realm bickering with one another over who's doing what, or who's wrong, or who didn't do right is a minute of energy and time that we're not spending trying to get the response right", Rubio told CBS. She says all she did "was ask for help".

The hurricane also trashed the U.S. Virgin Islands, a smaller territory in the Caribbean.

"I have not seen any federal help around here", said Javier San Miguel, a 51-year-old accountant.

"With that same fire and fury to save the people of Puerto Rico from what is going to be a disaster here in this island".

He's going after what he calls "politically motivated ingrates" and says "people are now starting to recognize the incredible work" by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the military.

"The storm caused these problems, not our response to it".

She developed into a leader in high school, where she was an honor student, an accomplished member of the track team and the Student Council president.

Also as part of that effort, the USNS Comfort, a 1,000-bed hospital ship, was leaving the Virginia port of Norfolk on Friday for Puerto Rico. "The definition of "poor leadership" is sitting at your golf club while millions of U.S. citizens beg for your help".

He characterized the president as "speaking from his fancy golf club, playing golf with his billionaire friends, attacking the mayor of San Juan, who is struggling" to bring electricity, food, water and gas to the island. Many people are without water to drink or even bathe in.
