Vin Scully gets help perfectly throwing out first pitch

Vin Scully calls in Fernando Valenzuela from bullpen for delightful Game 2 first pitch

The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers are playing Game 2 of the 2017 World Series (GameTracker).

It was supposed to be a chance for legendary broadcaster Vin Scully to throw out the ceremonial pitch for the team he broadcasted games for for 67 years, but that wasn't good enough.

Scully eventually called former Dodgers catcher Steve Yeager to catch his pitch - "It must be terrifying for you to look out here and see me", he told the 1981 Dodgers World Series co-MVP.

"I honestly don't feel I belong there and I would not want anyone to think I was eager for a spotlight", he told the Orange County Register in an email last week.

Los Angeles boasts a 1-0 series lead heading into a pivotal Game 2 Wednesday evening. Instead, Scully called to the "bullpen" for "a lefty".

Then, as he gave the ball to Valenzuela, Scully remarked, "I feel like I'm nearly defiling the mound".

Scully, 89, wasn't going to actually throw the first pitch.

The best part about Scully rocking the mic was the way he closed his ceremony, asking everyone in attendance to join him in saying his classic line, "It's time for Dodger baseball".
