Three killed in skydiving accident in Australia

Reportedly the place where the skydivers landed was roughly 1.5km north of the usual skydive landing site.

"Every person in Mission Beach we have spoken to about #skydive tragedy is absolutely heartbroken Big industry, well supported by locals", reporter Daniel Bateman reported on Twitter.

The area is a popular spot for skydivers and this is the worst incident in history for the area.

A third victim, a highly experienced tandem jumper who had completed thousands of successful jumps, was found dead at a nearby property after skydiving solo.

'The other two deceased were jumping as a tandem pair; a highly experienced instructor and a customer'.

A witness told The Cairns Post that "one chute was tangled and it wasn't opening".

"The company extends its deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the individuals and families involved and the broader skydiving community", it added.

Operations of skydives have been suspended while the authorities conduct their investigation.

"It wasn't good to watch".

Mission Beach is a popular skydiving destination in Queensland, lying just south of the city of Cairns. I had my heart in my mouth'.

There are believed to be two companies offering skydiving activities in Mission Beach, which is a 14km stretch of sand with four villages based along it.

Police will compile a report for the coroner with the investigation to be assisted by CASA and the Australian Parachute Federation.
