Swiss prosecutors open up criminal proceedings against PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi over alleged bribery linked to World Cup broadcast rights.
The Swiss attorney general's office (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against former Federation Internationale de Football Association secretary general Jerome Valcke and beIN Media Group CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi in connection to the awarding of World Cup media rights for 2026 and 2030.
Valcke, under a separate investigation by Swiss authorities for criminal mismanagement since 2016, was questioned as a suspect on Thursday and properties searched in France, Greece, Italy and Spain. He has denied any wrongdoing.
Valcke, who worked for FIFA between 2007 and 2015, is now serving a 10-year ban from football - issued by the FIFA Appeal Committee in June 2016 - after being embroiled in the corruption scandal that hit football's governing body in 2015.
Valcke was given an initial 12-year ban, reduced by two years on appeal, by FIFA's ethics committee over a ticket scam at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Switzerland has opened a criminal probe targeting Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, and FIFA's former secretary general Jerome Valcke, over alleged corruption in the sale of World Cup media rights.
He is also the chairman and CEO of BeIN Media Group was spun off from Al Jazeera Media Network, a Qatar-based media company, in December 2013.
According to the OAG, Valcke is also suspected of accepting advantages from the businessman for rights to the 2018, 2022, 2026 and 2030 editions.
