Tickets are now on sale for the hugely-immersive Star Wars VR experience, coming soon to Disney locations in California and Florida. Visitors will experience sight, sound, touch, and smell as they "walk into real-time virtual reality that combines interactive sets, real-time effects, and awesome technology".
Secrets of the Empire will allow you to "walk freely and untethered throughout the multi-sensory experience with friends and family", The Void announced in a press release. Your mission is to recover Imperial intelligence vital to the rebellion's survival. "It's a group experience that evokes the senses in bold new ways".
"At THE VOID, we combine the magic of illusions, advanced technology and virtual reality to create fully immersive social experiences that take guests to new worlds", Curtis Hickman, co-founder and chief creative officer at THE VOID, explained earlier this year.
Tickets cost $30 per person and the experience lasts for half an hour.
ILMxLab partnered with The Void, a virtual-reality company, for Secrets of the Empire. You're accompanied by the droid K-2S0, made popular in the Star Wars anthology film Rogue One, and must navigate enemy territory in a Stormtrooper disguise.
The virtual reality experience debuts on January 5, 2018, at Downtown Disney in Anaheim. "Disguised as stormtroopers, grab your blaster, solve puzzles, and fight giant lava monsters in an effort to fulfill your team's orders". One of the greatest positives of a conglomerate like Disney buying Star Wars was the scope for this kind of stuff to become a (virtual) reality.
