Should Sen. Robert Menendez have testified at his corruption trial?

Defense rests case in Sen. Menendez bribery trial

Menendez's attorneys said Walls prevented the introduction of key evidence and witnesses.

In addition, the senator pressed US officials to resolve a port dispute in the Dominican Republic involving one of Melgen's business ventures and to issue visas for several of Melgen's foreign girlfriends, prosecutors say.

Earlier Monday, the judge denied a mistrial request by defense attorneys, who accused the judge of unfairly limiting what evidence or witnesses they could present.

An indictment charges Menendez and Melgen with a long-running bribery scheme in which Menendez allegedly traded political influence for gifts including flights on Melgen's private jet between the USA and Melgen's home at a Dominican Republic resort.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The Latest on the bribery trial of Democratic U.S. Sen.

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez decided not to testify at his corruption trial, leading to the defense resting. Both men have denied any such arrangement.

Also on Monday, Walls denied a defense motion seeking to admit into evidence roughly two dozen items that the judge had excluded in the past. Bob Menendez and a wealthy friend.

The bribery trial is entering its ninth week.

Lawyers for Menendez and Melgen have told the jury in Newark, New Jersey, that they did nothing wrong and that their actions stemmed from a close, brother-like relationship.

As expected, Menendez and his co-defendant, Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, declined to take the witness stand in their defense. Bob Menendez are arguing over what legal instructions the jury will hear from the judge before deliberating.

They filed a mistrial motion on Sunday.

Menendez is charged with accepting free flights on a private jet and other gifts from Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen in exchange for political influence. The most serious charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
