RB Aaron Jones brings 'another dimension' to Packers offense

Packers Ready For Tough Road Test Sunday

Aaron Jones became the first Green Bay running back with 100 yards in his first start as a rookie since Samkon Gado did so in 2005.

That doesn't mean Rodgers is fun for Zimmer to prepare for, with the latest matchup looming Sunday. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott rose to the occasion, much like he did when the teams faced off past year in the Divisional Playoffs; this time, it was Prescott's team that took a commanding 21-6 lead in the second quarter, compared to when the Packers lead 21-3 in the playoffs.

"I've been in the National Football League 20-some years and I can't remember a guy that does the things that this guy does", Zimmer said. Adams had seven catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

The last time the Packers played the Vikings in Minnesota, Stefon Diggs had the best game of his career with nine receptions for 182 yards.

"The plan has been fantastic", Rodgers said Wednesday. Never mind the degree of difficulty of that throw, but Rodgers' ability to threaten the defense as a runner gets defenders to glue their eyes on him while he continues to scan the secondary. Each of the last three meetings between the teams in Minnesota has been settled by a field goal, with the Vikings prevailing twice over that span. His streak of five straight games is second in team history to Jim Marshall, who had a sack in eight games in a row in 1969.

"For one week, Jones and the Packers run game provided Rodgers with easy completions off playaction". But the admiration grew out of more than just his ability to rush the passer with pure speed, quick moves and relentless power.

Rodgers' 10-yard touchdown pass to uncovered wide receiver Jordy Nelson in the fourth quarter Sunday was a flawless illustration of that. Rodgers was magnificent against Dallas and particularly effective on play-action passes.

Mitch Trubisky wasn't going to be confused with Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady or Russell Wilson, but nobody really expected him to look as solid as he did last week. "He's huge. He's fast". He had 19 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown. In their 28 regular-season and playoff games prior to last Sunday, the Packers had only two 100-yard rushers.

Running back Ty Montgomery was once again a full participant despite his broken ribs. But whether from a project rookie or a position switcher, a productive ground game would make Rodgers and the Packers that much more risky.

But over the last three games Rodgers has put his foot on the accelerator, going nuts on opposing defenses to the tune of 10 touchdowns to just one interception. "You can't give them three dimensions".

Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer, a defensive guru who still calls the Vikings' plays, has given McCarthy and the Packers some trouble. Randall Cobb contributed 29 yards in four receptions.

"You hate to ever have one of your key cogs not in there", defensive coordinator Dom Capers said. "To be as big and fast and strong as he is, I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that as well".
