R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja recalled for Sri Lanka Test

India v Sri Lanka: Murali Vijay returns for Sri Lanka Tests

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary in a press conference on Monday announced the 16-men squad that will feature for the Test series, reported ANI.

Tamil Nadu batsman Murali Vijay returned to India's Test side for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka after missing the away series against the islanders earlier this year owing to a wrist injury.

Meanwhile, Vijay, who has been one of the most consistent openers for India in the recent past, injured his right wrist during India's 3-1 win over a visiting Australian team in February-March.

Premier spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja continue to be the first choice spinners along with Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav.

Virat Kohli will lead a 16-member squad, which will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match Test rubber, starting November 16 in Kolkata. Ishant did not play a single game on the tour of Sri Lanka.

The pace department comprises of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma with Hardik Pandya being the preferred all-rounder. Middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane will be his deputy.

The ODI series against New Zealand will be done and dusted with on the 29th of October, and within a fortnight, the three-match T20I series will also commence, with the last T20I to be played on 7th November. He enjoyed a successful but brief county stint in England for Division Two toppers Worcestershire, taking 20 wickets and scoring 214 runs in four games.

While the selectors ignored Ashwin and Jadeja for the T20I series against the Kiwis, they have been brought back in the Test set-up and Kuldeep Yadav is likely to play as the third spinner in the team. Turning out for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy last week, Jadeja hit 201 and claimed seven wickets in a match-winning performance.

The other Sharma, Ishant, played his last Test during the 2016 Border-Gavaskar series.

Squad: Virat Kohli (c), Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
