Pakistan violates ceasefire again in J&K's Poonch, four injured

Eight civilians, including a two-year-old girl, were injured on Wednesday when Pakistani troops shelled civilian hamlets and forward posts along the Line of Control in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Shelling and firing from across the LoC by the Pakistani Army in Poonch and Rajouri districts started at around 7.30 am, said the police official.

A police officer at Poonch Police control room identified the injured civilian as Mohammed Ayyaz Ahmed, son of Mohammed Saddam Khan of Darati village. On October 13, the Pakistan Army had violated the ceasefire in the Krishnagati sector along LoC. They used mortars, automatics and small arms.


Some cattle were also killed.

Defence spokesman Col NN Joshi confirming the incident, said Indian Army is "retaliating strongly and effectively" to the provocation. Three private vehicles and an electric transformer were damaged in the shelling, Indian officials said.

The firing and shelling exchange across the LoC was still on at all these three places till the last reports came in, said the police official.
