One man arrested in Maidstone area following extensive search

Buffin has been charged with robbery with a weapon, pointing a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for risky goal, possession of property obtained by a crime, and flight from police.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with a list of offences after a crime spree that stretched from the Edmonton area into Saskatchewan.

Jeremy Kelly Buffin was arrested by RCMP early Thursday morning when the vehicle he was driving got stuck in a slough near Maidstone.

According to police, members from Maidstone, Battlefords, Unity, Onion Lake, Turtleford, Cutknife and Lloydminster Detachments, RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team were on the scene until late Thursday evening.

The manhunt ramped up on Thursday morning as RCMP officers started searching the Maidstone area.

About five minutes later, police said the Ford Fusion was involved in another armed carjacking, one block north of the hotel at the Flying J gas station near Highway 16.

Mounties then responded to reports of a shooting at a Holiday Inn Express in Sherwood Park, just east of Edmonton.

The individual was conscious with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital and treated. Police in Alberta confirm the black Ford Fusion was involved, a shotgun was produced and a black Chrysler 300 was stolen.

At least two schools in the area - Chief Little Pine School and Chief Poundmaker School - were locked down, and the lobby of the Paynton post office was locked because of the incident.

The Chrysler 300 was later seen traveling at a high rate of speed through the Vegreville area before being located in Saskatchewan.

According to an RCMP news release issued Friday, officers nabbed the suspect when he got out a auto which had become stuck.

One suspect is still at large however, police say their presence in the area has decreased this morning as they begin to expand their search.

"We are remaining vigilant and are asking the public to do the same".
