Netanyahu: Israel will not recognise Fatah-Hamas reconciliation deal

Fatah’s Azam al Ahmad and Saleh al Aruri of Hamas kiss after signing a reconciliation deal in Cairo on Thursday

He said: "What was agreed on in Cairo, under the auspices of Egypt, is moving in the right direction toward ending the division, and any Israeli remarks will not change the official Palestinian position to move forward (with the reconciliation)".

"We've already formed a national unity government and the government of national consensus".

Under the agreement, the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority is to resume full control of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip by December 1, according to a statement from Egypt's intelligence agency, which oversaw the talks.A senior U.S. official told Israel's Haaretz that President Trump would recognise the deal.

The Israeli government is refusing to negotiate with the new Palestinian Authority unity government unless Hamas renounces violence, recognizes the State of Israel and disarms, among other conditions.

Netanyahu told members of his security cabinet that although Israel would not accept the recent reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah, it will not try to prevent the agreement from going through and the reconciliation will not lead to breaking the relations with Fatah.

The Israeli-Palestinian peace process has been stalled since April 2014 due to Israel's continued settlement activities on the occupied Palestinian territories. The announcement included a list of conditions under which Israel will be willing to hold talks with the Palestinian leadership.

It also said any aid or humanitarian equipment destined for Gaza must pass through the PA and the systems in place meant to thwart smuggling to the terror group.

Fatah had given up armed resistance to Israel in 1993 while Hamas promised to keep fighting. Thirdly, it must cut its ties with Iran. Since there are previous agreements between Fatah and Israel.
