Nehra set to retire

Ashish Nehra announces retirement, will sign off in Delhi

Even as Ashish Nehra stunned cricket fans with his decision to retire from global cricket after the game against New Zealand at the Ferozeshah Kotla in the Capital on November 1, many asked him to play a few more seasons of the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Nehra was also a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad.

"I have spoken to the team management and the selection committee (about retiring)". But the senior pro has made it clear that he trained to play for the country and not IPL."People say that I can play still play in IPL, but I always trained to play for India".

The veteran left-arm seamer has made quite a name for himself, had made it known on Wednesday that he would retire on November 1, when India take on New Zealand at Delhi (hometown) in a T20 worldwide. "Since India play their next T20 in Delhi, Nehra prefers to play that match", the official further added. Nehra also confirmed that he won't be playing in the Indian Premier League. "Sad to see that, especially when they played a good game". I realize that when I retire on November 1, there are five months before the next IPL and I could easily play. Once I will leave, I will leave. We all play together in IPL.

"I feel this is the way forward. So I think it is the right time and my decision has been welcomed by all concerned", Nehra signed off. "I hope he will do well in Hyderabad and win a game for my country", said Raina. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been in great form in limited over formats of the game recently and that because of that, Nehra has been warming the bench. Nehra, who has suffered a series of injury problems and last played for India in February, said he wanted to go out on top and in front of his home fans.

Nehra represented India in 17 Test matches, where he took 44 wickets at an average of 42.40, and 120 ODIs, in which he picked up 157 wickets at an average of 31.72.
