Naughty Dog Accused of Sexually Abusive Workplace & Responds

"We have recently read on social media that an ex-employee of Naughty Dog, Dave Ballard, claims he was sexually harassed when he worked at Naughty Dog". According to Ballard, he was sexually harassed in late 2014, and was sacked shortly after going to human resources about the matter.

Naughty Dog was quick to respond. David Ballard, an ex-graphic designer at the studio, has tweeted that he was sexually harassed and Sony paid him money to go away. All three commented anonymously, and said they were unaware of the alleged sexual harassment.

Naughty Dog has responded to the allegations, saying it found no evidence of harassment. Those employees said they did not know or want to speculate who the alleged sexual harasser may be. However, it doesn't appear as if the industry will take Naughty Dog to task for also relying on evidence to prove the substantiation of Ballard's case.

Former Naughty Dog artist David Ballard, who worked on both the Uncharted series and The Last of Us, said on Twitter over the weekend that he was sexually harassed in late 2015 by a studio lead during his time at the company. "There definitely is not a culture of covering up bad behavior", that person said. They tried to silence me by offering $20k if I signed a letter agreeing to the termination as well as to not discuss it with anyone. Considering he didn't sign the $20,000 NDA, Ballard could speak on this even further.

"This is the hardest thing I've ever done", Ballard tweeted", but I will not let anyone kill my drive or love for the video game industry, my passion, or life".

After subsequently reporting abuse to Sony HR, Ballard claims he was sacked the next day.

Using his Facebook and Twitter accounts on Friday night, Ballard wrote that in late 2015 he was sexually harassed while at Naughty Dog by a lead, an incident that led to his work environment becoming extremely toxic.

"I'm speaking out now because of the strength I've seen in others coming forward about their experiences in the TV/Film industry".

Not waiting until Monday, Naughty Dog has come forward with an official statement regarding the claims.

Naughty Dog said that it has and will always take reports involving sexual harassment very seriously, adding that it is of utmost importance to the company that it is able maintain a safe and productive environment for its employees. Ballard might have just blown the lid off some bad behaviour at one of the biggest games studios in the world, and there's likely to be more to this story soon.
