Microsoft gaming revenue sees slight increase

Xbox Live Games With Gold November 2017 Includes Trackmania Turbo Tales from the Borderlands & More

The latest financials from Microsoft are out with some interesting insight into how the company's games business is performing.

In regards to Xbox Live, these users were up 13% to 53 million, including mobile, Xbox One, and Windows 10 users. Its main console rival, the PS4 Pro, was released a year ago. The exec boasts that the likes of unified subscription service Game Pass and streaming service Mixer will help boost this figure in the future.

"Xbox software and services revenue grew 21 percent driven by continued momentum in digital distribution and strong game title performance", reads Microsoft's quarterly report.

It also said that its newer ventures in gaming, namely streaming service Mixer and the Xbox Game Pass were showing encouraging early results.

Although Activision has not revealed anything about it, last month the European cover of Call of Duty: WWII was leaked for Xbox One and there was mention of support for Xbox One X. Thus, everything seems to indicate that the 2 titles of Activision will take advantage of the power of the most powerful console in the world.

The world's "most powerful console" is apparently trading blows with a gaming PC, as the developers of Xbox One X games compare the upcoming device to a high-end computer.

At the sight of these results, the company is seeking to expand their approach to the gaming business, in the words of Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella: "We have high expectations for our gaming business to bring more people to more Microsoft experiences and broaden our engagement and usage scenarios".

We'll have to wait to put the Xbox One X through its paces before we can say for sure if its power and 4K chops justifies it being the most expensive games console in the market. Gaming pushes the boundaries of hardware and software innovation with some of the most CPU and GPU-intensive applications and content, giving us a huge opportunity in the cloud.
