Massive fire near Mumbai's Bandra station

Mumbai: A major fire broke out near Bandra Railway station in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon; as a precautionary measure, the local trains line has been suspended to ensure safety of people.

Fire confined to hutments in the area of about 300x300 and Skywalk of the railway station.

No reports of injury have come so far.

National media reported that 16 fire engines have been pressed into service to douse the massive fire.

According to reports, the fire reportedly broke out near Bandra East local train station during a demolition drive carried out by the municipal corporation in the area.

Officials said 9 fire tenders and 7 water tankers were at spot around 3:50pm. Earlier today, the BMC conducted a demolition drive there. At least two more cylinders are suspected to have exploded after the initial blast, and concerns are being expressed about the blaze worsening there would be a lot of domestic LPG cylinders in the the tightly packed slum.

Western Railway PRO said all lines at Bandra working including Harbour lines.

Thick black smoke was seen billowing out from the site.

"Officials of the H-East ward were demolishing some illegal structures in the slum when the fire broke out". No organization has taken responsibility of the fire, so it seems that a freak accident was the cause of the fire, and it will be taken in control in some time. Suburban train services were delayed but have been restored.
