LPG cylinder costlier by Rs 1.50 from Sunday, jet fuel price hiked 6%

Airfares may go up by as much as 15 per cent as a result

The price of non-subsidised LPG or market priced cooking gas has also been hiked by Rs 1.50 to Rs 599 per bottle.

In the third steep increase in fuel rates since August, Jet fuel or Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price on Sunday hiked by 6 percent on firming worldwide rates.

The government had earlier chose to hike LPG prices every month so that all subsidises are eliminated by this fiscal-end in March.

After the third consecutive monthly hike, ATF will now cost Rs 53,045 per kilolitre in Delhi, up Rs 3,025 per kl from Rs 50,020.

The successive increase in ATF rate could impact air travellers as the carriers may pass on the burden through increase in the fare.

The last hike was made on September 1 on ATF by 4 percent (₹1,910 per kl).

Since August, Indian OMCs have hiked prices once a month, pushing ATF prices up by a cumulative 12.8 per cent: from Rs 47,013 at the end of July to Rs 53,045 now.

Subsidised LPG rates were raised last by Rs 7 per LPG cylinder on September 1, as part of the decision to increase prices every month so as to eliminate subsidies. The hike is nearly of Rs 3,025.

The constant hike in LPG rates is in line with government's target of eliminating subsidy on the cylinders by March 2018.

A subsidised 14.2-kg LPG cylinder will from today cost Rs 488.68 in Delhi as against Rs 487.18 previously, International Olympic Committee said. The May 30 order of Oil Ministry instructed the retailers to increase the rate by an average of Rs 4 per month.

On Sunday, OMCs hiked jet fuel price by a steep 6 per cent on firming worldwide rates, the third straight increase in rates since August.

There are as many as 18.11 crore customers of subsidised LPG in the country.
