Kyle Shanahan not considering QB change yet

Regardless of the drops, Hoyer says his confidence in his pass catchers is unwavering.

Shanahan spoke with the media on Monday, a day after his team's overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

"I know we're 0-4, and it feels extremely bad when you're 0-4", he said. "And you don't want to make drastic changes for one reason".

"I know we very easily could be 3-1", Shanahan said. While Hoyer isn't winning games for the 49ers, he's not losing them. It's never just one guy. I think it takes everyone, coaches included.

The 49ers' offense has been pathetic almost all season, with the exception of their loss to the Rams in Week 3.

Shanahan admitted the Arizona performance was disappointing. Head coach Kyle Shanahan surprisingly used 11 personnel on each play. "It's similar to what I said [Sunday] night, when you have the time and you've got guys open, you need to hit them. And I thought he struggled with that at times (against Arizona)", Shanahan told reporters.

That led to the sub-.500 accuracy, somewhat of a rarity these days in the NFL.

Taylor played only 56 percent of the 49ers' offensive snaps on Sunday, but he was on the field for all of the team's third-down pass attempts, and he was targeted heavily. Over that stretch, only Blake Bortles (eight) and Cam Newton (eight) have done it more often.

"The 49ers haven't been an easy out for any of their first four opponents and have the look of a team that's going to get better as the season goes on", wrote Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Making the switch to rookie backup C.J. "I look at it as what's the best for our team right now". I look at it as what's the best for our team right now.

Shanahan expects nothing to be different a week later when the club resurfaces in Indianapolis.

Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby is confused by the 49ers' trips formation, and running back Carlos Hyde's motion out of the backfield.

At 0-4 with the chance of a massive turnaround seeming increasingly unlikely, there likely will come a time for Beathard to play this season.

This season the 49ers are 19th in total defense (allowing 346.2 yards per game) and 23rd in scoring defense (23.5 points).

Receiver Marquise Goodwin will begin the week in the concussion protocol after leaving Sunday's game in the first half. Their plan was to come out guns blazing with a new head coach and Bryan Hoyer under center.

"Real confidence is from experiencing success, and that's when it's real", Shanahan said. "If you're not, you're kind of trying to talk yourself into it, and that to me isn't very real", said Shanahan.
