Human remains found where elderly woman feared killed by crocodile in Queensland

Woman feared to have been killed by crocodile after going missing from aged care home in Australia

Anne Cameron's family firmly believe she passed away in "tragic circumstances" as police search for a crocodile that may have taken the 79-year-old from a Port Douglas creek.

"Because of the proximity of these items and this unknown material located near this creek bank, we can not rule out the possibility of a croc attack", Acting Inspector Ed Lukin told reporters at a news conference.

The remains were expected to be confirmed as human by pathologists in Cairns on Friday, Lukin said.

Ms Cameron's granddaughter Isabella Eggins said her family was of "firm belief" her nan had passed away in "tragic circumstances".

Police fear an elderly woman missing at Port Douglas in far-north Queensland may have been taken by a crocodile.

"We continue to search that area in the hopes we do find her alive".

"We have EHP officers who will conduct operations there tonight in the event there has been a croc involved in this missing person", he said.

State Emergency Service area controller Sean McGuinness said the search is proving to be hard.

The 79-year-old grandmother had only just moved into the area, relatives said.

"The teams are persevering, they understand what we need to try and achieve and basically try and assist police to get some information about the situation".

"In north Queensland we face the risk and sometimes the ultimate price because governments are weak on this issue", Australian MP Robbie Katter said Thursday while urging the state government to support the proposal for stricter crocodile management. The company declined to comment to the ABC.

She was last seen near the OzCare Aged Care facility at Craiglie, Port Douglas, on Tuesday afternoon.

Ms Wright said she was very upset when she heard Ms Cameron was missing.

She had only been at the facility for a few weeks.

"She's only been here eight or nine days".
