Google Cloud and Cisco offer developers hybrid cloud toolsets

Cisco says that going forward, the partnership will provide enterprises with a way to run, secure and monitor workloads, thus enabling them to optimise their existing investments, plan their cloud migration at their own pace and avoid vendor lock in.

Cisco Systems and Google announced a hybrid cloud partnership this week created to securely deliver distributed enterprise applications and services across Google Cloud Platform and on-premise infrastructure.

A blog by Google's head of global technology partners Nan Boden says: "Our work with Cisco enables app developers to build modern services that scale and can extend their customer reach while consuming data locked in existing systems that have not yet made the move to the cloud".

Diane Greene, senior vice president of Google Cloud, speaks during the keynote address at the Google Cloud Next '17 conference at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco in March.

Thanks to Amazon's Web Services (AWS), all cloud service providers are looking up at the competition, as the online retail giant has a major foothold with its public cloud offerings.

Both the teams have a stress that the solution of multi-cloud for the enterprises must involve a support for configuration, requirements of policy and security of enterprises along with the ability to obtain the performance data and real time networking.

Cisco and Google have today (25 October) announced a hybrid cloud delivery partnership to deliver a solution that will apparently help customers make the most of their investments across cloud and on-premises environments.

Google hopes enterprises will deploy its hybrid architecture to accelerate on-premise application modernisation by using a Kubernetes-based container strategy. "They understand what large companies want and need".

It has always been predicted that enterprise IT will migrate to the public cloud, but there have been large barriers to moving resources out of on-premises sites, and hybrid cloud has been proposed as a medium- to long-term solution. Those applications also could be configured to run on Google public cloud services.

Cisco and Goolgle said the hybrid cloud platform would be available to several customers during the first part of 2018, with planned general availability later next year.

The solution may be especially helpful to enterprises as adoption of hybrid cloud continues to grow, according to a recent study from SUSE.
