Colts lose rookie safety with season-ending knee injury

After being brought along slowly in the regular season opener, Hooker eventually grabbed a starting spot in the back end of the secondary.

Hooker had started the first seven games of the 2017 season, despite missing valuable time in the offseason, as he rehabbed January surgeries on his labrum and hernia.

Indianapolis Colts first-round rookie safety Malik Hooker is done for the season with a torn ACL and MCL suffered Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter as Hooker took an awkward hit from a blocker as he was trying to run down Allen Hurns on a 50-yard completion.

Hooker was drafted with the hope that the big play ability he displayed at Ohio State would translate to the National Football League level.

He's leading the team with three interceptions through seven games as a rookie.

After losing today the Colts are now 2-5 on the year with their playoff hopes dimming more and more.

Butler has seen his playing time drop significantly this season as Hooker earned himself the starting role and Matthias Farley has replaced the injured Clayton Geathers.
