Though fans have been waiting for the Gambit X-Men spinoff ever since Channing Tatum first joined the X-Men franchise a few years ago, work on the project had been stalled numerous times.
Gambit always was known for being a romantic, so it's only appropriate that his movie is opening on Valentine's Day.
After years of shuffling directors and release dates, Fox announced Thursday that Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinski is set to direct the X-Men spin-off, which will be released on February 14, 2019. Where the X-Men movies and the superhero movies with Logan and Deadpool really broke down a lot of doors for us.
It's official: Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is taking the helm of the long-awaited Gambit movie.
Not only did the film's production lose its director, Doug Liman, the project was also forced to start from scratch after the team encountered creative issues with Gambit's original script back in August. Tatum is producing the film alongside Reid Carolin under their Free Association production banner. However it must be worth noting that the Gambit film has actually been in this position before, when at one point it had Rupert Wyatt set to direct and a 2016 release date.
If it does go ahead though, it will be Fox's fifth X-Men spin-off following on from Wolverine, Deadpool and New Mutants which will be hitting cinemas next year.
