Asiya Andrabi in Social Welfare Deptt Poster

MoU signed by Rakul Preet Singh to be a brand ambassador for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign

The Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party and Congress today hit out at the state government on the issue of separatist leader Asiya Andrabis photo featuring in a poster on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

The poster, aimed at highlighting the women achievers of the country, was put out at a function attended by ministers, lawmakers and top officials to promote girl education in south Kashmir's Kokernag town.

The government also ordered an inquiry into the Andrabi-poster episode, chief of outlawed Dukhtaran-e-Millat.

The banner carried pictures of 12 women achievers of the world including J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, slain astronaut Kalpana Chawla, former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, former IPS officer and Lt Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi, tennis star Sania Mirza, playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and Mother Teresa.

Senior women resistance leader who is undergoing detention in Central Jail Srinagar was featured in a "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" poster at a tourism festival in Kokernag area of Islamabad district.

With Asiya Andrabi having been portrayed and projected as a role model, alongwith other prominent women personalities of the country, in a State Government function organized in Kashmir, there remained little doubt as to who were the "de jure" rulers in the State of J&K, said Harsh Dev Singh, JKNPP Chairman and former Minister.

The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is Save and educates the girl child is a publicly funded social campaign.

He regretted that while the daughter's of Jammu having won laurels at worldwide level including Shakti Sharma, Rachna Jamwal, Sana Dua, Anjusha Sharma, Tanya Gupta, Dr. Meenu Gupta were conveniently forgotten, a secessionist and Pak agent Asiya Andrabi was featured as role model for women thus projecting the real character of the BJP-PDP Govt.

Sajad said the CDPO responsible for the goof up has been placed under suspension and inquiry ordered against her for the misconduct.

There was no official comment from the ruling PDP-BJP alliance government or the two parties on the faux pas.
