Amazon Prime members won't have to pay for 'premium' Alexa skills

Well, it happens to be free access to Alexa skills.

And now Amazon will allow developers to make money with their third-party Alexa skills.

Amazon tells TechCrunch the developer tools are now in preview with the Jeopardy! skill developer, Sony Pictures Television. That's a lot, given that not all Echo owners even use skills, and many skills have never been installed beyond a handful of users.

Bringing together two of its major offerings for the first time, Amazon has announced that all Prime members with an Alexa-enabled device now get up to six additional questions when they play Jeopardy on weekdays. If you aren't ponying up for Prime, but are smitten with the game, those half-dozen hints will run you $1.99 a month, and you can subscribe to them directly within the skill itself. It also marks the first time Amazon has used an Alexa skill to offer an exclusive benefit to Amazon Prime members, a company spokesperson told VentureBeat.

However, the core app experience available today will not change.

What is the most recent facility for Prime subscribers?

The subscription is linked to a Prime membership. If Amazon wants to keep these types of premium skills rolling though, it'll have to make it worth the extra work for developers.

Following the preview with Jeopardy!, Amazon says it will notify other skill developers when the tools become more broadly available.
