AFC West standings: Raiders pulling up rear in NFL's toughest division

Updated AFC West standings after Week 6

The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Oakland Raiders in Week 7 of the National Football League schedule on Thursday, start time at 8:25 PM ET, at Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA.

While the addition of middle linebacker NaVorro Bowman was a shrewd one, Oakland will need to find some offense fast after scoring barely over 16 points per game over their last three contests.

To say that this season hasn't gone according to plan for the Raiders through six weeks would be a huge understatement after they've gotten off to a 2-4 start that has many feeling they're the most disappointing team in the NFL.

The Chiefs (5-1 SU, 5-1 ATS) were -3.5 on Sunday and upset 19-13 at home by Pittsburgh - Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has never lost a regular-season game to Kansas City and also beat the Chiefs in last year's playoffs.

Derek Carr was held to 171 yards and picked off twice in Sunday's loss against the Los Angeles Chargers. Kansas City, meanwhile, is 5-0 both SU and ATS its last five times out immediately following an outright defeat.

When the 2017 NFL season began, the AFC West was supposed to be the toughest division in football. Oakland has also failed to cover in seven of its last 10 games played on Thursday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have some outstanding offense. Kareem Hunt is playing like a mortal with averages of 3.7 yards and 2.3 yards per carry in the last two games.

So far this year, Carr has 924 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions, and Lynch leads Oakland with 257 yards rushing and two touchdowns off 70 attempts.

Oakland has arguably had the NFL's best offensive line in 2017, allowing a league-low 16 hits to the quarterback. The Chiefs gave up an early safety, trailed 19-10 on a fluky Steelers touchdown, pulled within one score with just over two minutes left and got the ball back. Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs -3 over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday Night Football. Maybe he won't throw for 300 yards and multiple touchdowns, but he should have chances to make some big plays Thursday night. The Chiefs could have a hard time getting to Carr, as well. The Raiders may have dug themselves into too deep of a hole to climb out of in the AFC West.

Here's a current look at the AFC West standings. The Kansas City Chiefs are going to win this game over the Oakland Raiders.
