Uganda gears up to face giants Egypt in qualifier

While failure to qualify for the World Cup will not bring financial benefit to the team, it will bring more top level exposure to the team and yet qualification has a cash guarantee of over one million US dollars.

Mohamed Salah's sixth minute goal lifted Egypt to the top of Group E with nine points, two above Uganda.

Uganda will enter the football pitch on Tuesday with a prayer to beat hosts Egypt in their own back yard in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Guinea and Libya are now both out of the running for Russian Federation, leaving it a straight shootout between Tunisia and Congo for the World Cup place. "Besides the result the performance of the team was good", stated Onyango.

That result ensures that the Ivory Coast remain atop Group C - with seven points to Morocco's six - despite a shock 2-1 defeat at home against Gabon, much improved despite being on the end of a 3-0 defeat in the first fixture between the duo in Libreville at the weekend.

Uganda have never come this close in a World Cup qualifying campaign.

"We have reached a level where we can take on any team in the world".

Five days after losing in Uganda, and letting slip the lead in Group E, Egypt had its revenge with a 1-0 win over the Ugandans in Alexandria. We shall do better in the next two last games.

Egypt will play Congo on 8 October at home before ending the qualifiers against Ghana in Accra.

In Group A, Tunisia have taken pole position in the pool after coming from behind to take a point from the Democratic Republic of Congo in a 2-2 draw in Kinshasa, with two goals in the space of two second-half minutes.

The table now stands in Egypt's favour on 9 points from 4 games, followed by Uganda on 7 points and Ghana in 3rd place with 5 points and Congo last with just one point. "It would be good to go four points clear in the group", said the goalkeeper's coach Fred Kajoba.
