The canceled St. Louis concert was set to take place at The Dome at America's Center on Saturday night.

Live Nation has released the following statement in regards to the cancellation.

On Friday, a judge found former police officer Jason Stockley not guilty of murder in the brutal 2011 shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith. Police teargassed protesters in both neighborhoods, and several businesses in the Central West End had their storefronts shattered.

The band says on its website that it can't in good conscience risk its fans' safety.

We have also been informed that local crowd security personnel would not be at full capacity. "As much as we regret having to cancel, we feel it is the only acceptable course of action in the current environment", U2's statement said.

Refunds will be given on the credit card tickets were purchased.

The incident became so violent, St. Louis law enforcement authorities could no longer police the U2 concert thanks to the number of officers on patrol in the city, prompting the rockers to cancel their concert out of safety concerns. Refunds for non-internet purchases will be available starting Monday at 10am at point of purchase.

Bono took to the band's Instagram account on Saturday to address the cancellation, revealing he is disturbed by the racial violence erupting in the USA of late.

U2 has cancelled its September 16 concert in St. Louis, Missouri after a night of unrest over a police officer's acquittal that saw rocks thrown at officers, injuries, and arrests.

Bono then shared the quote from Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech: "Human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability....we are coming to ask America to be true to the huge promissory note that it signed years ago".
