Two More Hurricanes Approach In The Atlantic

Downed power lines felled trees branches and other debris litter Naples Fla. Hurricane Irma has knocked out power to more than 1.6 million customers in Florida

By mid-morning, Katia was 160 miles (255 km) east of the port of Tampico, with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour (155 km per hour), making the storm a Category 2 hurricane.

A hurricane watch was issued for Antigua and Barbuda, devastated by Irma on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Meanwhile, Irma is now headed toward the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos and Cuba, and is expected to reach Florida on Sunday, according to ABC News.

Both islands are part of the northern Leeward Islands, and are under a hurricane warning as Irma approaches the region.

Florida is now preparing for the possibility of Irma. Now, in anticipation of Jose, Browne is considering evacuating residents. The storm was expected to weaken rapidly over the next day, the NHC said.

The storm formed over the open Atlantic with 40 miles per hour and by early Wednesday morning night winds from the storm had reached 60 miles per hour with higher gusts. Irma, on the other hand, is almost 400 miles wide.

According to the 5 a.m. public advisory, the latest available, Tropical Storm Jose, which the NHC expects will become a hurricane later tonight, is about 1,255 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

Hurricane Irma is now sweeping through the Caribbean with deadly force as two other storms move in from the Atlantic.

If the storm tracks over the beleaguered islands of the northern Lesser Antilles, they could face destructive winds for the second time in four days and up to 10 inches of rainfall.

As Hurricane Irma churns toward the USA, another tropical storm formed closely behind it.
