Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser Prado SUV

Revised Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

Toyota Australia has unveiled the new, 2018 LandCruiser Prado, which brings in a new-look front end and updated design elements, increased technology and features, and amped up interior quality. The styling is subtle and evolutionary, with a new and intricate grille, reshaped headlights with LED daytime running lights on the upper-spec models and is overall larger than before.

The car's off-road amenity is said to be improved thanks to lower corners on the front and rear bumpers, the latter incorporating new lamp clusters. As a result of these changes, the Land Cruiser Prado is now longer than the previous model. Six-spoke alloy wheels will be available in sizes of 17 or 18-inches, and a new 12-spoke 19-inch wheel design will also be offered. The Land Cruiser sells in more than 190 countries all over the world, so it's the best Toyota in terms of availability.

Toyota Australia also used the unveiling to confirm it is ditching the 4.0-litre V6 petrol variant of the Prado on the back of slow take-up (diesel sales now make up 99 per cent of the model mix, according to Toyota).

Inside, Toyota has updated the presentation of the dashboard, instrument binnacle and switchgear.

The Prado range now adopts lane departure alert and automatic high beam.

Can the Land Cruiser still cut it against fresher SUVs? A Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and an upgraded tyre pressure warning system are also part of the revamped package. As far as motivation is concerned, the Land Cruiser can be had with a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder diesel packing 177 hp (133 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, linked to six speed manual or automatic - and the SUV can top out at 109 miles per hour (175 kph). United Kingdom buyers will continue to be offered the 2.8-litre diesel unit only, producing 174bhp and 450Nm of torque - 420Nm if equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.
