The Chainsmokers Clarified That Racially Insensitive "Joke"

The Chainsmokers Clarified That Racially Insensitive

Over the weekend, the musical duo, which consists of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, was in Shanghai to perform in the electronic music festival, Ultra China.

The Chainsmokers have the midas touch when it comes to crafting radio-friendly bops, but they still have a lot to learn about media training.

The minute-long segment opens with the interviewer asking member Alex Paul if he brings his dog with them during tours.

The Chainsmokers are now in South Korea, where they're thought to be collaborating with k-pop group BTS.

Following backlash from fans over a perceived racist Asian joke in a video uploaded yesterday, The Chainsmokers have since taken down the video and released an apology. Pall said he doesn't often get to, because his dog is "really ill-behaved" - and then said "Well, I don't know if I'd bring her to China", before laughing. The interviewer, who is Asian, responds with his hand over his mouth. Because not only did Pall apologize for his comment - he turned it into a call to action against the widely-scorned dog slaughtering committed during the country's annual Yulin Dog Meat Festival. The comment was about the stereotype concerning the Chinese and eating dogs.
