Swansea boss Clement rubbishes attitude concern for Sanches

The Swansea midfielder tracks back to defend against Tottenham's Son Heung-min

Swansea manager Paul Clement says good defending should be applauded after his side earned a 0-0 against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday.

Clement was proud of his side's performance, and says succeeding with a defensive approach should be praised.

"Clearly you want to attack more in a game, but we have to be realistic", he added. "You go to Italy and they applaud it".

"I would have liked to have created more chances, but I think good defending should be looked on positively".

Swansea have lost 10 out of the last 12 Premier League games against Tottenham and last beat the London club in the English League Cup in 1991.

"It's going to be a hard game for us, there's no question about that", he said.

The match also saw summer signing Renato Sanches start again, but after being taken off before the hour mark Clement reiterated that the youngster would need time to adapt to the Premier League.

Swansea City kept a clean sheet at Wembley Stadium against a Spurs side that scored six goals in their last two games and manager Paul Clement said he was proud of his side, claiming that they were deserving of the point. "We are showing that on our day we are hard to beat".

"Sanches is rebuilding confidence after a turbulent year at Bayern. It takes a bit of time to get up to speed".
